How Ronald Reagan and his Administration pushed World into the Nuclear Precipice
/ Pakistan, US / 6 comments
Barlow is now destitute and living in a trailer
[1]
So said Danielle Brian, executive director, Project on Government Oversight (POGO), in a Congressional hearing last week.
Now who is this Barlow? His name is Richard Barlow. Once upon a time he was a rising star and a decorated analyst (CIA’s Exceptional Accomplishment Award in 1988) in CIA.
His greatest mistake? He went after Pakistan’s Nuclear Program and the progress Pak had made in getting all the components from US and Europe right under the nose of the administrations…. worse WITH the connivance of Ronald Reagan’s Government. The evidence against Reagan’s administration was so damning that a high level official once said, that if US is ever attacked with a Nuke, you know WHO to blame it on!!
Danielle Brian also continued about Barlow that:[1]
As a CIA intelligence officer and later in the Pentagon, Rich Barlow learned that top US officials were allowing Pakistan to manufacture and possess nuclear weapons. Barlow also discovered that US officials were hiding these activities from Congress. Barlow objected and suggested to his supervisors that Congress should be made aware of the situation… he was fired.
These allegations and statements EXACTLY mirror the assertions made by two British journalists, Adrian Levy and Catherin Scott-Clark in their Investigative book “Deception”.

President Obama’s Note to a girl’s teacher
/ US / 0 comments
Yesterday, Barack Obama was in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care plan. John Corpus got up to ask a question in the Town Hall about the Obama’s health care reform and mentioned that his daughter was skipping her last day in school to attend the event.
And President Obama asked if his daughter needed a note for the teacher on her absence. John said “I may take you up on that”, half-jokingly. Obama asked for his girl’s name and actually started writing the note.
He finally gave the note to the girl who is extremely happy to have gotten a note directly from the President. I just listened to the interview with the girl, Kennedy, and her teacher Mary. It seems the class was very intimately involved with the elections this year.. and so this note from the President himself turned out to be a perfect way to end the school year.
Interesting Presidential gift for the kid!

Out of Many, One: E pluribus unum
/ US / 4 comments
It is telling and indeed intriguing that three religions, coming from the same root have such deep-seated animosities. Even though all the three religions acknowledge half a dozen protagonists as their founding fathers, still Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have developed such deep rooted enmity. In fact, every strain of these religions in turn has led to more animosity that even after 15 centuries, it remains fresh and potent! Protestants vs Catholics or Shia vs Sunnis. I can understand if for some time, there may be misgivings… but there seems to be no end to this enmity!
All the morals of Moses, or Love of Jesus or revelations of Mohammad are of no use if all these can inspire is nothing more than hatred and cruelty. A Sunni feels no compunction in hanging an Ahmediya simply because the latter added another protagonist to the long list of Prophets. A Jew feels little love for a Palestinian and vice versa.
Nowhere and in nothing else has a “Past” had such a profound and debilitating effect on such a vast mass of humanity and for so long as the “Past” of Jerusalem. Sometimes, I wonder if there indeed could be anything “holy” about a place whose most practically felt contribution to the contemporary world has been hatred and wars! Holiness should inspire men and women to rise FAR above their stature and mind. Between the Demon and God, lies the Human. Holiness should take this humanity towards the realm of Godliness, but instead if that journey takes the humanity to demonic coordinates, then how profound can it be?
Yesterday, Barack Obama gave a speech in Cairo. It was a speech that many in history SHOULD have given. He said what many SHOULD have said over the centuries since Mohammad but sadly and unfortunately DIDN’T! These were words that were resting on the Lips of Eternity to be uttered…. but there wasn’t enough of a humanity available which could get over the bondage of that “Past” to even say these things as unequivocally as Obama said it now.

Wordcloud of Obama’s Cairo speech
/ US / 0 comments
Today we heard Obama’s speech in Cairo to the Muslims of the world. Here is a wordcloud of all the words used. It is interesting that the word which was mentioned the most was the word “People”. How emphatic he was on things can be viewed from the use of the word “Must”. America was used more than Muslims and Muslim. And btw, do you see the word “Terrorist” or “Terrorism”? Well, he used “Violent Extremism” instead of Terrorism. Its time for vocabulary change.
What do you think of it?

Obama’s Speech to Muslims in Cairo
/ US / 0 comments
This is the speech that Obama gave in Cairo today. Without doubt, Obama is THE most effective communicator of modern times. I have rarely seen anyone who can articulate extremely complex concepts, diametrically opposite viewpoints and address differences and similarities as effectively as he can. Here is speaks fearlessly about what the both sides need to do in no unclear words and yet comes off as a conciliator.
I remember listening to Senate Majority Leader, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), while he described Obama’s performance in the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. After Obama’s speech, Reid congratulated him, and Obama – not with pride or arrogance, but with humility firm in his understanding of his strengths, replied “I have a gift”. Without a doubt, he has a gift of speaking the right things, with the right nuances, and with the right tone.
I think the speech was very well articulated and delivered. What do you think?

Discrimination in US against Muslims
/ US / 18 comments
How are Muslims perceived and treated in the US? An interesting experiment and discussion by ABC news. Not that it would decide how Americans or even other cultures behave with Muslims, but I would be curious if someone in say, Saudi Arabia or even Pakistan ever gives thought or does any research on the blatant discrimination prevalent in those cultures? I am not sure where the lady who helped in this experiment was originally (her parents’ country/culture) was from and if she ever had an iota of thought of the minorities living and facing worse discrimination in those cultures?
I don’t think people should be discriminated, but I can understand when people know how the other side would react if they were in the same situation in the other’s culture, that they loose the fairness in their own character.
It is always news-worthy and interesting to slam US and Americans on discrimination, but the fact is that after having travelled in roughly 4 continents in the world, I haven’t found a more fair place, except for Canada. Yes, its not perfect, but in the comity of nations that we live in, try doing what you do in another country. And I don’t mean Nahaya goes to a Muslim country and does what she does in the US… but she takes her liberal American friend and has her do all she does in the US .. in that country! And STAND by her .. fight for her rights! Would she? That’s the question. So, in a way, America is in competition with itself in this game of fairness and discrimination… for the rest of the nations don’t even show up!!
