Don't Mess With Jesus: US Supreme Court tells a Teenage student!

A teenager was standing outside his school in an event not in his school premises but on public property with a banner "Bong Hits 4 Jesus".  He was called by his principal and reprimanded, banner torn and he was suspended.  Reason: The slogan was encouraging drug use.  The kids (Joseph Frederick) defense: It was a nonsensical phrase.

The case went to court.  The Chief Justice John Roberts: "It was reasonable for (the principal) to conclude that the banner promoted illegal drug use– and that failing to act would send a powerful message to the students in her charge,"  The judges who went with John Roberts: Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Stephen Breyer, and Samuel Alito.

3 judges dissented.  Justice John Paul Stevens said, "This case began with a silly nonsensical banner, (and) ends with the court inventing out of whole cloth a special First Amendment rule permitting the censorship of any student speech that mentions drugs, so long as someone could perceive that speech to contain a latent pro-drug message."  Two judges supported him: Justices David Souter and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

What this case does is set a baseline of rights of school students in terms of free speech.. even when outside the school!  And THAT is a scary prospect.

The Bottomline: Say whatever you want to about the other religions (attack Mohammad as you wish) but do NOT touch Jesus!  He is sacred and there are people who will make sure he remains so!!  So, no one messes with him!  Not even Him!

US is now clearly showing signs where its civilizational decline is a big possibility.  I have seen that three things are important for civilizational success:

  1. Predominance of Reason (science) over Religion
  2. Thriving of a Melting Pot that rewards Merit
  3. Strength of Trade within and from a country.

Loss on any one ground makes the country lose on the whole.  Now, I think US is losing ground on all three of my tests.  India was the greatest civilization until the 1200, and then the Islamic invasions occured and brought Religion and superstition with it… and we lost ground forever.
