Even the Dead Can’t Get enough of the iPads!

Getting an iPad2 in Asia is no easy feat – specially with long lines and short supplies.  With the earthquake in Japan and the subsequent Tsunami, Apple’s raw material supplies have also been affected.  Well, the living beings on the planet are of course realing under the shortage from probably, the greatest product in consumer history.  But, it seems that even the dead are feeling the heat.

Today – Tuesday – is China’s Qingming festival (also known as Ancestor Day or Tomb-Sweeping Day).  During this festival  paper versions of important things in life such as money, clothing, and, gues what – even consumer electronics are burned as offerings to the dead!  And this year, the rage among the dead – is the paper version of iPad2.  Such is the demand for non-working but nevertheless critical piece of offering to the dead, that shops have run out of the product.

“Some of my customers have dreams where their departed relatives will ask for luxury items including the iPad 2,” said prayer item shopkeeper Jeffrey Te as he filled cardboard chests with fake money at his shop on the outskirts of the capital.
“I can only offer them the first iPad model,” he added, pointing to shelves stocked with the gadget along with paper iPhones and Samsung Galaxy Tabs.

The prices are economical though – the 1st and 2nd generation paper “iPads” are selling for a dollar for 888 GB capacity.  Why such a high and crazy number?  Well its an auspicious number in the Chinese culture!  So, even though the living will have to wait a while to get that kind of capacity on their iPads, the dead – at least some of the lucky ones – are having all the fun!!
