Just Because She was a Girl

When she was born, they frowned and said what a fate,
We didn’t want for our son, a girl mate,
No ceremony, nothing, just…
Just because she was a girl!

When she should have played,
They levied heavy burdens on her,
She washed the dishes and prepared meals,
No education, no friends,
Life was miserable, just…
Just because she was a girl!

Her teens were not a bed of roses,
She had to work, She had to cry,
And at the same time, hear her family’s taunting voices,
Her brothers enjoyed all shades of life,
But she was a victim of our society’s wise.
She was a prisoner and for them, evil personified,
Just because she was a girl!

Alas! She thought she would be free from prison,
For they wanted to involve her in a mission named, ‘Marriage’
She was married!
What so if they paid a fifty thousand commission,
Just because she was a girl!

A bright future twinkled in her eyes,
But she was unaware to the hearings of her soul’s cries,
The devil she thought was the ancestor of her in-laws,
for they wanted to finish her without any cause.
And all this, just…
Just because she was a girl!

Her in-laws tortured her by every means,
And of course, the neighbors enjoyed a filmy scene.
The story reached its climax one day
It was a cold blooded murder,
She screamed, she shouted,
But no one could hear,
Just because she was a girl!

If this is the end of a girl’s life,
Then tell me, why do you bring her?
As a daughter, as a mother, as a sister,
Or else a wife.
You never realized she’s a precious pearl
And disliked her, just…
Just because she was a girl!
