A man steals a bridge!

Russia hasn’t had it so good in last decade and a half.  Poverty and crime has risen quite a lot.  But nothing could prepare me to imagine a crime like this!  Generally, when you talk of a theft, you would say that Mr. X stole A from a house or office.  You know things are REALLY BAD – when the crime news says – A Man stole a bridge from a local river! As if it was a gold ornament lying on a pot! 🙂

A goods vehicle driver from Russia’s Ryazan Region, to the southeast of Russia’s capital, is suspected of stealing a five-meter metal bridge from a local river, a local police spokesman said.

"A five-meter metal bridge over the Yaroslavka River was stolen, but the thief was successfully traced following a manhunt," he said.

Investigators said the 45-year-old suspect is believed to have dislocated the bridge in the region’s Shilovo District and carried it away using a vehicle owned by the utilities company he works for. He then sawed it up, and intended to sell it to a scrap yard, the spokesman said.

The final two cents from the police:

"This is the largest object to be stolen this year," the spokesman said. A police investigation is ongoing.

Now, THAT is called the understatement of the year!!
