Moon mission at a shoe string

Chandrayaan-1 – the Indian moon mission is now orbiting the moon.  It is as shoe string as it possibly gets!  Here is some perspective:

Total cost: Rs 380 crores (USD 76 million)
Airbus 380 developmental cost: USD 15 billion
One Boeing 737-600 (the cheapest one) costs: USD 50 million
Cost for right of Indian Premier league paid by Sony Entertainment: 10 times the Chandrayaan-1 price.

The team at ISRO did not cut corners.  They just optimized stuff.  The tests that Americans would do six times, ISRO did 3 times.
