There is a very interesting set of polls out there. One, a poll by staunchly Congress oriented CNN IBN and another by small time news outlet led by an ex-research editor of TOI.
The former says Rahul Gandhi is the favorite to lead the country as the next PM after Singh. Interestingly, this comes on the heels of the talk in Congress of projecting Rahul Gandhi as the next PM by dumping Singh and also Sonia installing her son at the helm while she is out for the surgery.
The legendary servility of the Congressmen to the Gandhi family is astonishing.
The CNN-IBN pollster says that no other politician poses any threat to Gandhi around India as 42% Indians want him to be the PM.
34% people felt that Gandhi should become the PM right away. Why? Well because Dr. Singh he is seen as “lameduck”. That is the most amazing finding that one can find! Dr. Singh is a lame duck for Sonia and Rahul’s authoritarian rule in the Government and Congress. So, the respondents aren’t happy with that.. and to make amends, they want Rahul Gandhi himself to come in instead.
The insult to the readers’ intelligence is complete!
In another poll conducted in the 5 metropolitan cities, the picture comes out radically differently! Modi seems to be the most popular choice in that poll. He is very clearly ahead of the pack and specifically Rahul Gandhi!
Dr. Singh = 31% ; Rahul Gandhi = 47%
Dr. Singh = 32%; Narendra Modi = 52%
Rahul Gandhi = 35%; Narendra Modi = 51%
In this poll, consistently, 75% of the respondents are dissatisfied with UPA Government’s performance in tackling inflation and also corruption. 73% are dissatisfied in tackling terrorism and 61% overall are unhappy with the current government.
Also, 55% are dissatisfied with Dr. Singh as the PM.
To a question – “If elections were to be held today, which party would you like to see leading the Government at the Centre?”, the responses were:
42% of the respondents chose the BJP, as against 32% who chose the Congress. Eighteen per cent named other parties, while 8% had no response.
Given the level of corruption, and what Modi has achieved in terms of progress and corruption free Governance in Gujarat, its imperative that we see a change in Delhi. A Major change!
