Syed Geelani’s Machiavellian statement on Kashmiri Pandits’ return to valley

Syed Geelani and Arundhati Roy

During the 80s and the 90s, hundreds of thousands of Hindus were driven out of Kashmir by the Jehadis.  Those who left the valley still remember the atrocities of Bitta Karate and Yasin Malik.

Now, the Government is trying to bring some of the Kashmiri Pandits back to Kashmir in certain areas where they can feel safe.  In many cases, the Pandits were driven out and threatened by their very neighbors.  Many who landed in Delhi would have nightmares of those times and remember the threats.  So, when the question of going back has ever come up, the main issue for the Pandits has been – “How do they feel safe with the very people who threatened, and often even attacked them?

The Government has built 200 flats at a cost of roughly Rs 23 crores in Sheikhpora in Budgam district.  Relatively good start, although very little and very late.

But the extremists are up in arms.  Syed Geelani isn’t happy.

Syed Ali Geelani is a Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference and a pro-Pakistani extremist.  He is often engaged by self-proclaimed “anarchists” in Delhi and the rest of India.  This is his take.

Though Geelani called for the return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits to their native places in the valley he opposed the government’s move to rehabilitate them in exclusive clusters as “a conspiracy to settle members of RSS and other Sangh Parivar groups” in Kashmir.

Interesting that he refers to Hindus coming back as RSS and Sangh Parivar people.  What if they are?  They have been marginalized for last 30 years and if they feel they have to join together along religious lines you cannot fault them!  And, this coming from a hardliner Islamist who is pro-Pakistani, it is rather facetious.

Worse, it is a double whammy for these Kashmiri Pandits.  One, the Government spends money to try to rehabilitate them in an area from where they were driven out, and now this guy, who aligns himself with the extremists and the killers of thousands of Pandits, is openly resisting them.

What does he want?

“Kashmiri Hindus are the part of the Kashmiri society and should be rehabilitated at their original locations or the state government should provide them money for building houses in the residential localities where they can live with their Muslim neighbours,” Geelani told reporters.

Put yourself in the shoes of the Pandits who were driven and threatened by their own neighbors and “friends”, even killed.  And then ask the question that Geelani is posing.  Will they want to be in the same area as the Muslims who marked their houses and joined the terrorists targeting them, if not killing them outright.

It is a Machiavellian of Geelani to even suggest it.  He is basically making sure, that if these Pandits escaped last time, this time, they will be completely finished.

His final statement shows his complete insincerity.

“The decision, which is aimed at tilting the demography, would lead to civil war in the state.” He said this was being done to give communal colour to “the freedom movement”.

Really?  I mean Really??!!  It is NOW that Communal color will be given to what the Kashmiri Muslims have been doing?  That threshold was crossed loooong time back!

And it is not “Freedom Movement”.  But Islamization of Kashmir.  Period.
