PETA ruffles Turkey feathers on Thanksgiving

This is an especially incredible ad this thanksgiving.  PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) have come out with this ad where the little girl who says the Grace at the family dinner at Thanksgiving recounts the maltreatment to the Turkey – like many others – that they are about to devour.  The message: Go Vegan.

But the ad has hit the sensitivity of TV networks.  Networks including NBC, ABC, Fox, Nickelodeon, ABC Family and other cable networks have banned the ad from appearing this Thanksgiving.  Discovery Kids channel came up with a rather incredible argument:

“Discovery, which as a whole, is very conservative and legal, feels that this spot would be too disturbing and traumatic for children to view.”

Eating a killed animal is not as traumatic as knowing how it was killed???  That’s fairly nonsensical!

Thanksgiving History

This festival traces its roots back to a celebration in 1621.

….1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation, where the Plymouth settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season. It is this iconic event that is generally referred to as the “First Thanksgiving.”  Squanto, a Patuxet Native American who resided with the Wampanoag tribe, taught the Pilgrims how to catch eel and grow corn and served as an interpreter for them (Squanto had learned English while enslaved in Europe and during travels in England). The Pilgrims set apart a day to celebrate at Plymouth immediately after their first harvest, in 1621.

Of course, its another matter that latter these Native Americans, who helped the Europeans tide off the harsh weather… were either killed or enslaved and their lands usurped by those Europeans!  I find Thanksgiving to be the Feast before the killing of the those who helped you through.  It is celebration of hypocrisy in my eyes.
