India wins second test by 10 wickets – does clean sweep

India won the second test today by 10 wickets.  Thus doing a clean sweep of the series.  It was the 7 wicket haul by Zaheer that set the stage as Bangladesh were skittled out for 312 in the second innings.  India needed 2 runs to win the match, which came on the second ball via byes.

Despite a very good batting display by Tamim Iqbal scoring 151 and Junaid Siddique scoring 55, the rest of the batsmen did not cross 50.  Earlier during the match, the Indian batting stars, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar set up the win as both scored centuries (111 and 143 respectively).  In the Indian innings, all the top guys scored well – Gambhir (68), Sehwag (56), and Dhoni (89).  With a score of 544 against the first innings total of 233 by Bangladesh, it was always going to be tough in the second innings.  In that context, it was a very good batting performance from Iqbal and Siddique.

It was basically the late surge of wickets by Zaheer Khan that finally got the match in India’s pocket in the end.  Tendulkar meanwhile received a special memento for becoming the 1st cricketer to cross 13,000 runs in Tests.  He is just moving on and on and the way he is going, he may as well end up with between 15,000 to 20,000 runs by the end of his career.

India meanwhile retains the number one test team slot in the world.  But I have a question on this.. Do you think India is better than Australia as a test team??
