Steps for researching Real Estate in India
If I had to go searching for real estate in India using only online resources – I would go the following way:
Start with researching on Magic Bricks. Read the articles, participate in a few chats and also ask as many questions to get off my doubts and confusions as I can
The search on Magic Bricks and 99acres first.
Then go to India Property and other sites.
Finally, talk to the local agents thoroughly. Nothing like talking to the people on the ground.
Here is a list of the top 6 websites in India where you can go to buy and sell real estate.
Google Page rank: 5 Alexa Rank: 3503 Site Name registered in August 2005
This site has been around for a while and is definitely the top one – with wide recall amongst the buyers and the real estate agents. This site doesn’t have any thought-leadership articles but has a Q&A section, which can be useful. However, I didn’t find a whole lot of answers to people’s queries. WIth a company of the size of Naukri.com – which launched this website – I would have thought that they could have hired a few experts to answer the queries. But none of that is done here.
It has a news section, but these are basically news articles from various newspapers, on anything related to real estate – not necessarily something useful for a buyer.
Value add services: Has a section for renting the properties and also a section to apply for Home loans.
Google Page rank: 5 Alexa Rank: 4248 Site Name registered in June 2006
Utility wise, I would rate this as the best site for getting a complete picture of the real estate market. It not only has the entire gambit of buying and selling, as well as renting, but it also has some important features for people to learn about the various issues of the market, like:
Gurutalk: It is a chat session with some expert, who can answer questions of the readers. For example, the last chat was with Prakash Challa, the MD of SSPDL Group. Surveys: Well, it has one survey, which is very topical and insightful. Something that would help me, the buyer, make an informed decision. Content section: This area has articles and featured stories on the different markets within India, as well as – Expert corner (featuring some expert), Rates and Trends, Legal & Taxation, and Home Loan Q&A Section with Experts: The experts featured in the Experts section above, answer questions for the readers.
Google Page rank: 4 Alexa Rank: 9260 Site Name registered in December 2003
This site has been around for long and can be useful in the search. I would rate it as the number 3 site and would be useful for any buyer to use its search facility as well.
Beyond this, the other sites are “Also Ran”. I would use them to help me get more search results but certainly not to be my primary site. It doesn’t have any informational content to help the site reader with the process or even the market for the real estate.
