Putting all speculation of the timing to rest, India and Russia will sign a deal on supply of five Russian S-400 air defence systems this week when Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in India for the annual summit, his top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov told the media in Moscow. Putin arrives in New Delhi on Thursday and will have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi the next day. The agreement comes against the backdrop of the United States threatening to impose sanctions against any country that buys Russian weapons. India has already made it clear it will go ahead with the deal, citing national security requirements.
