Insightful newsletter of Drishtikone: Issue #199 - Khalistan and Referendum Strategy

Referendum 2020 (now 2022) is a devious strategy that has to be defeated in its inception by the Indian authorities and citizens. A factual analysis of its different aspects.

“A man then must stand erect, not be kept erect by others.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations: Philosophical Contemplations of a Roman Emperor

Many people who want to destroy the very society they live in or corrupt the legacy they swear by don’t do it because they have clarity about their actions.  For the most part, they are compulsive, power-hungry, intellect-deficient dwarfs who are looking for ways to find meaning in their sorry lives.  Jinnah and Nehru were two such people.

Those who find their objectives on the path of terror are more such people.  They want to kill others to feel great about themselves.  They have no means to find the true meaning of who they are on their own.  For, their own self-worth in their eyes is dependent on others.

Nanak, Buddha, and Krishna were not who they were because others were smaller in their comparison.  These beings were who they were based on the worth of their own lives and work.  It is foolish to compare them and even worse to find the superiority of one over the other.

But many indulge in such a sport.

Because they align themselves - superficially and ideologically (without merit) - with one and to find worth to their own sorry selves, they have to start playing the game of “who was better - my man or yours?”.

If you have really understood Buddha, or Nanak or Krishna, you cannot find fault or have any comparison with any other such enlightened master.  Like Heisenberg’s dictum, the act of comparison voids your very knowledge of any of them.

The pissing matches are for ideological dwarfs who think they can anoint superiority on one such being by unleashing a campaign of utmost brutality on others.

Khalistanis, for example, find the only way to underscore Nanak’s greatness is to stamp their own brutality in the most creatively villainous ways possible.

the serious threat of Referendum 2020

A campaign called Referendum 2020 has been going on in the last few years by the Khalistani terrorists.  What is this Referendum 2020?

Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) says it is targeting Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver to join some 100 cities worldwide where Sikhs will be polled in a non-binding referendum as part of a campaign dubbed “Referendum 2020.” (Source)

It is a non-binding referendum and SFJ is clear about that part.  Then why is it still going ahead?  The answer lies in the flyer that SFJ has shared on its website.

examples of symbolic referendums

Symbolic referendums have happened before and are part of attempts by some outside force to inject destabilization of a country.   Although these referendums for territories with de facto but not de jure sovereignty are aspirational, they do tend to delegitimize the target country and create a halo of legitimacy around the group or organization pushing for such non-binding referendums.  Here are some examples:

Transnistria in Moldova: A double referendum was held in Transnistria on 17 September 2006. Voters were asked whether they approved of the possibility of renouncing independence and integration with Moldova, or alternatively independence and possible future integration into the Russian Federation. (Source)

Somaliland in Somalia: A constitutional referendum was held in Somaliland on 31 May 2001.  It was a referendum for a draft constitution that affirmed Somaliland's independence from Somalia.  It was rejected by the Government of Somalia and did not lead to any international recognition. (Source)

That is why, it was not without reason that SFJ’s Gurpatwant Singh Pannun was in Catalan, Spain during the referendum (“non-binding”) there.

The SFJ Khalistanis are serious about how they want to go about the whole thing.

Khalistan referendum losing steam?

Indications are that the whole charade of the Khalistan referendum has been losing steam.

That should, however, not create carelessness in the Indian government and larger Indian community relative to the designs and the impact of such an exercise.  Because, if a foreign power and even worse, internal anarchist elements, including formal political parties like INC, AAP, and Communists) are backing such designs up, then it can suddenly become a very significant issue!

We need to remember that the very reason for Operation Bluestar was a similar plan in its very rudimentary structure.

Reason for immediate action in Operation Bluestar: In May 1984, one night, Mrs. Indira Gandhi was made to listen to a taped conversation between Bhindranwale and a top Army officer from Pakistan about the plan to create Khalistan.

Mubarak ho!” Thus began the phone conversation between General Zia-ul Haq and a crony even before all of India had heard about Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination. The footnote to it is: Mrs G had overnight decided upon Operation Bluestar after hearing a taped phone dialogue between Bhindranwale and a top army officer of Pakistan. The sant was about to declare Amritsar as his capital, and the Pakistan army was all ready to liberate “Khalistan.” In both instances, the transcripts had been provided by the Soviet Union.  (Source)

Indira Gandhi worked on going ahead with the whole operation without any second thought, despite the challenges.  (Please read - The story of Operation Blue in 1984)

a formal process, even non-binding to begin with, can snowball very quickly

If there is a referendum, non-binding albeit, and it tends to legitimize Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) as the de facto representatives of Sikhs globally, then, if Pakistan overtly and Canada, US (specifically with Biden in power) and other countries covertly back such a movement, India will be in a spectacular geopolitical mess.

Somaliland and other such regions didn’t get much traction because the countries they were trying to destabilize were rather inconsequential (except to Russia).  But India is a major power.  The destabilization of India, specifically one led by PM Modi is a wet dream of every anarchist honcho in the world right now.

Before SFJ even becomes a defacto representative of Sikhs, they have to be nipped in the bud.

Thankfully, the Indian government is aware of that and moving ahead with a plan to do just that!  Just yesterday, NIA has filed charge sheets against 16 foreign-based Khalistanis in Referendum 2020 (Sikhs for Justice) case.  (Source)

Until now, the Canadian and the UK governments have rejected the drama around Referendum 2020. (Source)  But both these countries, along with the US, have had a long history of shielding, harboring, and even backing Khalistani and Islamic terrorists in India.  Throughout the 1990s, Khalistanis found refuge in these 3 countries.  So, whatever they say now should be discounted completely for what they may do in the future when presented with the “Referendum 2020” results.

And, this is in the context of how the government systems in European and North American countries have behaved when faced with such issues.

Germany and Khalistan - window to legitimacy?

Germany today has between 10,000 and 20,000 Sikhs, most of them are Khalistani sympathizers.

Recently, early this year, one Indian national, named Balvir (54 years) - believed to be a RAW operative was arrested in Germany.

An Indian national faces trial in Germany on charges that he spied on the Sikh and Kashmiri communities in the country on behalf of the Indian foreign intelligence agency Research & Analysis Wing, or RAW.  (Source)

Last year another Indian couple was arrested on similar charges.

Last December, the same court in Frankfurt convicted an Indian couple for spying on the local Sikh and Kashmiri communities on behalf of RAW.  (Source)

India has been bringing the facts about Khalistani terror activities being waged from Germany to the notice of their authorities.

During a fairly lengthy meeting between Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and German Parliamentary State Secretary in the Ministry of Interior Guenter Krings, several issues pertaining to security, exchange of information on terrorist recruitment, investigation of cases, ways to deal with financing of propaganda, movement to conflict zones, counterfeiting and trafficking were discussed.  (Source)

So let us look at this again.  The German political and judicial system:

  • would not take action against the Khalistani terror operatives and planners
  • but would arrest Indians on the suspicion that they were passing information about these terror operatives - who are not even state officials!

Does that look screwed up?

And, it is these weaknesses in the Western systems that Pakistan and Khalistan will use to get legitimacy for Referendum 2020 to push it in front of other “reluctant forces like UK and Canada.

So the future of Indian strategy on Khalistan is very clear.  Neutralize the propaganda, operatives, and organizations.

how Ayodhya movement was kick-started due to Netaji

It was in the early 2000s that Hindustan Times ran a campaign asking its readers to send information on Netaji to them if they had any.  Based on that information, they said, they will share the results of their findings.  Many people sent in information, which was published every day.  But the final findings were never published.  The person leading that exercise in HT was a guy called Anuj Dhar.

Anuj Dhar later left HT and made it his life’s mission to research on Netaji.  Mission Netaji - he called it.  He has come out with two books on this subject as well.

It was his association with the Mukherjee Commission which was the most pivotal part of the journey.  Mukherjee Commission was the first government commission to state formally that Netaji did not die in that air crash in Taiwan.  The Taiwanese government subsequently came out with an official statement saying that the air crash where Netaji was said to have died - never happened.

Anuj’s work showed him clearly that one recluse living secretly in UP - called Gumnami Baba - was actually Netaji.  Why he did not come out is a complex question.  Simple answer - Nehru’s government had promised to hand him over to the US and UK (erstwhile Allied forces) as a war criminal if he was found in India.  He still did a lot of work, which Anuj mentions in his book.

Also please read the article - 5 reasons why Gumnami Baba was Netaji

Here Anuj Dhar shares an interesting story of how the Rajiv Gandhi government kick-started the Ayodhya situation to suppress the case to get more information on Netaji to be filed by his daughter.  Netaji’s news and its suppression was that serious an issue!
