Only 46% of Mothers in India Breast-feed

Breat Milk is very important for the future of the newborns.  Yet, I saw a statistic that shocked me for the Indian context.

only 46 per cent of Indian mothers breastfeed their babies during the first six months, according to a survey conducted by the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)

This information was given by senior research officer at the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Hyderabad K. Damayanthi – while speaking at a function in Hyderabad on occassion of World Breast-feeding Week.

Good that at least amongst all the useless occassions for which “days” have been instituted, there is a day for reminding people on Breast feeding.  The coming generation will be better off if the mothers of today can do this one favor to their kids.
