Insightful newsletter of Drishtikone: Issue #270 - The Anti-India Ploy of Khalistan

Khalistan is a ploy of the West. It was created to teach India a lesson. Even further back, the orgs which back it now were once empowered by Indian leaders for Freedom Struggle. Oh the irony!

“Charms strike the sight, but merit wins the soul.” ― Alexander Pope, The Rape of the Lock

Shakuni will play his part in taking you down.  He has his vested interests.  And, that is the love for power.  A power over everyone else who can make him feel small.

He does not always need fight himself, but he can create enough venom in every heart that comes in his contact to attack not just the Pandavas, but also Krishna.

And, for Krishna to be sympathetic to him would have been foolish.  Which he knew.  The way to handle Shakuni is to finish the tools that his venom has activated.  Making him powerless.

But for that, you cannot let off.  Your humanity cannot let venom have a field day while you rest and be passive.

When the Mahabharat is on, either you are in the battle.  Or under the ground.

Today, the Western journalists and establishments are giving lessons to India about democracy and about “farmers rights” while these so-called protests are a cunning plan to revive the Khalistani terror movement.

So we just wanted to go back into the history and see when the Sikhs first arrived in Canada and the US and how a nationalist community which laid the foundation for a free India became the tool for breaking their beloved motherland.

And, how not just the US and Canadian leadership, but the entire NATO establishment worked hard to create, back and empower the Khalistani terror movement.

Just to teach India, and Indira Gandhi - who wouldn’t bend to their diktats - a lesson.

A ploy and plan, they have dusted and brought out again.  To do an encore with Modi.

How dare these “rabbit-like breeding” (Churchill) and ugly (Nixon) Indians think they can even have a voice?  How dare they?!

Walk back into history

As Sikhs were posted in various places around the world by the British, they eventually made their way to the West coast in North America.  That is where they set up their bases.

To create a cultural and religious base with proper investment, they created the Khalsa Diwan Society in 1907 at Vancouver, and later in California.

The Sikh diaspora was looking to help their homeland in Punjab was tapped by the Indian revolutionaries who were working hard to overthrow the British.

During the Indian independence struggle, two revolutionaries - Lala Hardayal and  Taraknath Das had gone to Canada and US to mobilize Sikhs in California and Vancouver to be closely linked to the struggle in India.

Eventually, Ghadar Party, which was initially known as the Pacific Coast Hindustan Association, was formed on 15 July 1913.  It was set up under the leadership of Lala Hardayal.

Lala Hardayal, an Arya Samaji, was a specially gifted intellectual.  Born in delhi with a Bachelors in Sanskrit from St Stephen College in Delhi (yes, Stephens offered Sanskrit as a major back then!) and a Masters from Punjab University, he received two scholarships for Oxford.  He was studying there when he became a revolutionary.  He turned down a career in the Indian Civil Services and came back to India in 1908.

During his work he was closely associated with Veer Savarkar, Madan Lal Dhingra and Shyamji Krishna Varma.  On the death of Madan Lal Dhingra, who killed Sir Curzon Wyllie, political aide-de-camp to the Secretary of State for India after the British had divided Bengal and unleashed a series of consequences in terms of communal separation in India, Lala Hardayal had written:

“Dhingra, the immortal, has behaved at each stage of the trial like a hero of ancient times. England thinks she has killed Dhingra; in reality, he lives forever and has given the death-blow to English Sovereignty in India.”

It was this Lala Hardayal who brought the Ghadar Party together on the Pacific Coast.

Btw, Shaheed Bhagat Singh is on record to have called Madan Lal Dhingra as his hero.  The greatest freedom fighter in India had a hero and he was Madan Lal Dhingra.

The same diaspora in US and Canada started investing in Punjab’s agriculture and development post independence.  In the 1950s and 60s, Punjabi Suba movement was supported by the funds from Vancouver-based Khalsa Diwan Society.

The Khalistan idea started in 1954.  An ideology that took the shape of a secessionist movement in the 1970s.

The demand for a separate Sikh State called ‘Khalistan’ came from the Sikhs within Punjab. However, the history of a demand for Khalistan among the Sikh Diaspora can be traced from the arrival of Davinder Singh Parmar in London in late 1954. He began promulgating the view that Sikhs required an independent Khalistan in order to ensure their survival as a community. Only one person supported Parmar during the early stages of the movement, but he, nevertheless, contributed to newspapers, distributed pamphlets and debated with his fellow Sikhs regarding the question of Sikh separatism. Parmar’s idea of Khalistan was validated, however, during his 1970 meeting in London with Jagjit Singh Chauhan, who shared the formers unrelenting commitment to Khalistan. In 1970, the Khalistan movement was formally launched in London at a Press Conference in Aldwych, located just opposite India House, where the Indian High Commission offices are situated. (Source)

In the next two years, Chauhan ratcheted up his actions.  He unfurled a Khalistani flag at an event in Birmingham.  An event which was attended by hundreds of Sikhs. In Hyde Park, in 1971, he organized a demonstration where several slogans calling for Sikh sovereignty were displayed.

Remember this was the time when Richard Nixon was the US President.  The man who hated Indians and Indira Gandhi.

In his book The Kaoboys of R&AW -- Down the Memory Lane, former Indian bureaucrat who retired as the additional secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat wrote about how Nixon in collaboration with Yahya Khan hatched the plan for breaking India and creating the Khalistan movement against India.  Khalistan was basically a CIA plan created and shaped along with the ISI. The urge to break India amongst the NATO intelligence network was very high. Khalistan was a powerful tool in their hands and they wanted to ensure that they used it to the hilt.  And, this comes out most strongly in how Talwinder Singh Parmar was shielded by the West German intelligence along with their Canadian counterparts, even when the Indian authorities went to arrest him while hwas enroute to West Germany.  Parmar was later involved in blowing up the Air India plane with over 300 passengers on board!

Giving an example of "non-cooperation", he refers to the authorities in the then West Germany.  He says Talwinder Singh Parmar of Babbar Khalsa, a sacked sawmill worker in Vancouver in Canada who was wanted in several cases in India like the Nirankari massacre and had been making "threatening" statements against Indira Gandhi, was arrested while travelling from Zurich to West Germany following an INTERPOL alert.  The German authorities not only did not hand him over to a CBI team, which had rushed to Bonn to take him into custody, but sent him back to Vancouver. Two years later, Parmar played an active role in the conspiracy, which led to the blowing up of the Air India plane 'Kanishka' killing over 300 passengers, the retired R&AW official says adding, "the West German authorities cannot escape a major share of responsibility for this colossal tragedy." As the 1970s came to an end, the game in Punjab was changing.

Asian Games and the start of Khalistan movement

In 1981, right around the Delhi Asian Games, a strategic mistake by Mrs Indira Gandhi and Congress started the path to Khalistani terror movement.

We had discused the details of the Khalistani movement in our previous newsletter Issue #202 – Past as a Guide.  Please do check that out.

By the end of the 1970s, the Akalis had seen their political fortunes go down and in this “revival of Sikhism”, they found their calling. They found an ally in Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Thus started their “Dharma Yudh” with Golden Temple as the base.

Chima, Jugdep S (2008), The Sikh Separatist Insurgency in India: Political Leadership and Ethnonationalist Movements

This Dharma Yudh was led by Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal. Although the whole situation in Punjab had its differentiation into moderates and extremists and ultras, but at some point, they were all working together.

The Dharam Yudha Morcha that was set with Akalis and Bhindranwale was funded and backed by Babbar Khalsa and Khalsa Diwan Society in Vancouver. (Source)

The organization that had once funded and helped create the cry for nationalist struggle for a free India and inspired heroes like Madan Lal Dhingra, Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Ashfaqulla Khan and Lala Lajpat Rai ultimately became the funder for the breaking of India.

Backed by the Western intelligence establishment, specifically the Canadian and US government.

Paving the way for Khalistan by the US establishment

In December 1981, India Abroad - a newspaper that catered to the Indian diaspora - had a visitor in their office.  Khalistan terrorist Dr Jagjit Singh Chauhan.  His Indian passport had been revoked on April 24, 1981 but he had still travelled to the US.  Chauhan had come to the office for a story that the paper’s reporters were working on.

Interestingly, Indian political counsellor in Washington G Parthasarathy was also in that office as he was about to leave for his new assignment as consul General in Karachi.  While he was chatting with Gopal Raju, he saw Chauhan, but did not recognize him.  So he inquired with Raju on who the Sikh gentleman was.  Raju was surprised and remarked “..don't you know him, that's the Khalistan leader, Dr Chauhan.“  That is how Indian establishment realized that the guy whose passport had been revoked was not only allowed to travel out of London but given a visa to the US.

Washington's Indian Charged Affaires A.N. Haksar paid a personal visit to the State Department to protest Chauhan's entry. A State Department insider admitted that there was a letter from the Ministry of External Affairs announcing the cancellation of the passport. "But the London Embassy is a huge place with tremendous pressure for visas to the United States," he told India Today.  "Besides, Mr Chauhan showed a valid passport and letters from General Danny Graham (former head of the Defence Intelligence Agency), and Senator Jesse Helms (perhaps the most powerful member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee)." He was issued a routine B-2 visa valid for six months. (Source)

The role of Senator Jesse Helms and General Danny Graham (former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency) was intrumental in the creation and amplifying of the Khalistani terrorism movement.

But what India Today has been able to establish is that over the years Sikh extremists have forged ties with far right-wing Senator Jesse Helms who has a close relationship with the CIA, and with General Danny Graham, former chief of the Defense Intelligence Agency who still wields considerable influence within the intelligence agencies. Last year General Graham told a close friend that he has known Jagjit Singh Chauhan, the self-styled leader of Khalistan, for many years and that Chauhan had been a consistent source of 'valuable information'. Graham - with the help of Senator Helms - helped Chauhan obtain an entry visa into the US in 1982 over the objections of the State Department which had initially refused the visa in deference to the Indian Government's wishes. Graham and Helms have been allied in several right-wing positions, including supporting counter-insurgency in Central America as well as the highly controversial 'star wars' nuclear defence programme. Graham is also a member of the World Anti-communist League. Helms, a staunch anti-communist, has given his support to several reactionary fringe causes such as the restoration of the monarchy in Afghanistan and Iran, Bulgarian separatists, and Croatian monarchists. A key Helms aide, Jim Lucere, is reportedly the senator's point man for such causes. (Source)

But who was this Jesse Helms?

Let us go back to November 1972.  Greenboro airport in North Carolina Richard Nixon was in town to back Helms.  Helms introduced the president and Nixon turned around and shared how close he and Helms were since the time Helms was a Senate aide in 1950s.

“Ever since that time, I’ve known Jesse Helms for his intelligence, his compassion and his dedication,” Nixon told the crowd of more than 10,000. (Source)

The partnership of Nixon and Helms worked.

In the end, it was Nixon who helped pull Helms and Holshouser to victory. The president won almost 70 percent of the vote in North Carolina. Helms won 54 percent and Holshouser, 51 percent.  (Source)

Jesse Helms was close to Richard Nixon.  And a racist to the core.

Jesse Helms began his career as a radio newsman, and broke into politics by assisting segregationist Willis Smith in his 1950 Senate campaign. Mr. Helms is credited with inventing the description of UNC, the University of North Carolina, as the "University of Negroes and Communists." He may have written--and, at a minimum, was certainly aware of as part of the campaign--newspaper ads that asked: "Do you want Negroes working beside you and your wife and daughter eating beside you sleeping in the same hotels teaching and disciplining your children in school occupying the same hospital rooms using your toilet facilities?" Another of Smith's adds featured a doctored photo of the incumbent's wife dancing with a black man. Mr. Helms later denied any involvement, but a newspaper advertising manager told Helms biographer Ernest Furgurson that Mr. Helms personally cut up the photos. Mr. Helms was rewarded for his campaign work with a job as an administrative assistant to Smith in Washington. (Source/WSJ)

In 2001, he was the Chair of the very powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.  When he left his seat in 2001, he was succeeded by then Delware Senator Joe Biden, now US President.

Thus, when lawmakers return here this week after the Memorial Day holiday recess, the cantankerous curmedgeon Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina, who turns 80 this October -- an isolationalist par excellence and a critic of India for many years -- will be replaced by Sen Joe Biden, 58, of Delaware, an internationalist with a wide-ranging interest in world affairs and one who believes that sanctions against New Delhi must be lifted, but is also an ardent supporter of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. (Source)

A full circle.

In the initial days, even when the American intelligence apparatus was helping create the Khalistani movement, they kept denying in a rather diabolical manner while helping the separatists who later unleashed a mind-boggling level of terror on India.  Specifically the Hindus.

Privately, American sources say the medical issue may be a red herring. "Look here's the point," one said, "Chauhan is not a criminal. Punjab is not in flames, it's not as if he's running guns is a civil war. And the British Government says he's got the right to return to England any time he wants. So why hound him like a fugitive and fan more fires of Sikh nationalism?"  (Source)

When the Khalistani movement was finally put down by the Indian government - often said to have been done brutally by KPS Gill, the narrative was then being turned around.

So, in 2009, CIA’s Jamestown foundation laid out the relationship between Khalistan, Pakistan’s ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba

An effort to break India which was started by the highest in the US establishment and backed by everyone from the intelligence to the Foreign Relations Committee to NATO forces, and backed by Pakistan’s intelligence via training, arms and planning - Khalistani terrorism - is now seeing a comeback.

The original plan by the Western powers to “discipline India” and throw out any strong Indian leadership who is not pliant has been dusted and brought out.

And now, today’s Khalistani ploy

In today’s Canada, the New Democratic Party (NDP) is led by Jagmeet Singh.  He is a pro-Khalistani ideologue.

Newly elected Politician and Leader of Canada’s second-largest party NDP Jagmeet Singh may be a kingmaker in Ottawa, but for India, he remains a “Pro- Khalistani and Pro-Pakistani” activist. Who shelters activists of Khalistan in Canada; he leads the anti- Indian movement in the Americas. He organized a conference of Pro-Khalistan activities in Ontario in 2013. He demands a secessionist land and highly praises a terrorist Bhindrawale in 2015 at a pro- Khalistan rally in San- Francisco.  (Source: Eurasiareview)

The US media and the links as well as sympathies between the different players is obvious.

For example, Manu Raju is a CNN reporter.  He is the brother-inlaw of Valarie Kaur (Source).  She shares the videos from Lily Singh’s interview with Jagmeet Singh, who is a backer of Khalistan movement and a sympathizer of Bhindranwale (Source), the man who targeted and killed hundreds of Hindus specifically.

Source: New York Times June 1984

Khalistan and its protagonist, Bhindranwale, was not just for a Sikh nation, but a Hindu-hating bigot whose goons would pull poor, innocent and hapless Hindus - segregate only Hindus from the entire bus - and shoot them down execution-style.

So, when Jagmeet Singh talks effusively about Bhindranwale, he is also signaling his extreme hatred for Hindus - and backing the ideology of a sick man who would do what Hitler had done.  And, Lily Singh (Source), Valarie Kaur, and others who back these sick terrorist lovers and anti-Hindu bigots, are part of the problem.  No matter how flowery their prose!

For, no amount of poetry can hide the stink of a well-planned massacre.  In fact, it increases the pain that the psychopathic poet tries to beautify.

Have you wanted to break away from the world and live a life of isolation in wilderness?  Many imagine that.  Some actually go for it.

Brendon Grimshaw, a Brit (from Dewsbury, England) who worked as as the editor of a newspaper in Africa spent £8,000 and purchased Moyenne Island off the north coast of Mahé, Seychelles, in 1962..

He built a life of fulfillment working hard to conserve animals and birds and living with the nature.  Today that island is part of the Ste. Anne Marine National Park just north of the capital Victoria.

An 86-year-old Yorkshire man, Brendon Grimshaw may have lived alone for many years on the tiny island paradise of Moyenne in the Seychelles in the middle of the Indian Ocean since he bought it in 1962 for £8000, but he is rarely lonely. For Brendon has spent the years reintroducing the indigenous giant tortoise to Moyenne and now shares the island with 120 of the magnificent creatures, on one of the world's smallest national parks.
